Nestled between the Yale Farm and the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium within Yale’s campus, this building anchors itself as a welcoming threshold for the Yale Farm, members of the university, and the wider New Haven community.

Through the investigation of thresholds, courtyards, and poché through different spatial exercises as means for mediating interior and exterior spaces, the final intervention at Yale Farm invites entering visitors to participate in a dialogue in a central agora before transitioning into rooms where experiential learning, research, events, and recreation occur.

Spaces and apertures defined through the stereotomic mass open and unfold as users circulate around the building, revealing moments of light and visual connection, creating a sanctuary for all to gather and commune.

Through a series of spatial exercises at the beginning of the studio, a formal design language of utilising the poché through thresholds and courtyards is developed, then integrated into a educational center program.

Contradicting continuous exterior facade and stereotomical interior.

Stereotomic spatial conditions created through hierarchical sequence of courtyard and educational space.

Back of house offices and educational spaces surround a communal courtyard.
